Regular Council Meeting - Posted to Council Connection by Admin
- 1) Fernie Derrick Society Speaks to Council
Mr. Fred Lightfoot of the Fernie Derrick Society provided Council with an update and proposal to save the Akamina Oil Derrick which is currently located at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Lightfoot submitted a petition with 517 signatures requesting that the oil derrick be preserved at its current location and provided Council with a list of actions that need to be done as soon as possible. Mr. Lightfoot requested Council’s support in preserving the oil derrick at the Fernie Chamber of Commerce site. Mayor Macnair asked Councillors McSkimming and Cox to bring forward.. (Read More)

Ghostriders Windup Banquet - Posted to Fernie Ghostriders by Ghostriders

The Ghostriders held their annual windup banquet ending what turned out to be another successful year both on the ice and off it. The team got off to a rough start with out a coach in place until late August and no ice in Fernie until mid September but everyone persevered and by the end of the year Ghostrider Head Coach and General Manager Will Verner had his team in first place in the Murdoch East with the lowest goals against in the league. The Riders went on to fight it out it out with Kimberley, Beaver Valley and Kamloops.. (Read More)

- Skiing is an obsession that has taken me to where I am today, Fernie. Early season I ski every day however at this point in the season my desire wanes and I find myself thinking about surfing, cycling, caving and snowmobiling…what?
I must clarify than when it snows my obsession returns, spring powder is the best! Last Tuesdays cycle of 22cms of dense pow everything one could hope for. Everything was open and ripped from bowl to bowl.

In the last week, we passed through the last gentle days of Indian summer and entered the days of hard fall. The colors remain in the larches and some lowland cottonwoods and aspens, but up high the leaves have been stripped by rain, snow, winds, leaving grey sentinels bidding their time until spring.
Last week, a friend and I hiked a few hours up a close by valley. Stopping where the valley split, with mountains rising on three sides, the other dropping back steeply to the Elk, we sat on a rustic bench for a mountain picnic of whole wheat hard.. (Read More)
