Salomon’s Women Will: Dream Ski Trip for Women

Kicking off Spring 2007 is Salomon’s new Women Will contest. Women skiers need to visit www.salomonwomenwill.com by June 29 to share their stories for a chance to win your dream trip.

Salomon will choose one 1st prize winner who will receive up to $12 000 for travel, guiding, gear and equipment to experience the trip of a lifetime. The second prize winner and her friend of choice will become a VIP guest at a Saab experience – a sport experience during the day and relaxing evenings in a surprise destination.

Finally, five 3rd prize winners will be chosen for a Saab Salomon dream weekend and the chance to take off in a sporty Saab BioPower Hybrid loaded with Salomon gear.

Meanwhile, Salomon Women Will has announced that the Fall/Winter 2006 Global winner of the Live Your Dream contest is a Canadian. At the beginning of April, Nathalie Gervais and her buddies flew to Baffin Island to ski the unreal settings of Arctic Canada. Fernie Golf & Country Club opens!

The Fernie Golf & Country Club will be open for play at noon Tuesday, April 24th, 2007. The course is in great shape.
The Fernie Golf and Country Club and the City of Fernie invites you for a marvelous day on the links during the 2007 season. The snow is gone and the greens are glistening like emeralds waiting for you.

Fernie boasts one of the oldest golf courses in the Kootenay Rockies. Founded in 1918, the Fernie Golf and Country Club consistently ranks as one of the top courses in BC. In the next year, two more courses will be breaking ground—A championship golf and residential development on the South side of Fernie and a second course is slated for the upper Elk River Valley near Sparwood.

BC ski resort breaking records

It was a record-breaking winter season at Sun Peaks Resort. The final count for skier visits is 325,420, up from 318,000 last year. Destination market visits increased by 36%.

“It’s been a fabulous winter on all levels. We experienced great snow conditions from early on that continued right through closing weekend,” said Francis Argouin, Director of Sales and Marketing at Sun Peaks.

Other record breaking periods throughout the season included the Christmas season and President’s Week, both experiencing a 12% growth. Easter weekend was one of the busiest time periods ever.

In the Kamloops market Sun Peaks experienced a positive increase with a 7% rise in season’s pass sales.

On the international front, specific markets that had substantial increase were the United Kingdom up by 15%, and North American visitors up by 6%. The big story though is the Australian market that saw a 50% increase.

Fernie Alpine Resort stopped releasing skier visits a couple of years back however all bets are on an increase however no record breaker. Everyone had more than their share of powder this season.

$150,000 FUND TO SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITY

Fernie Alpine Resort is pleased to announce the launch of the Fernie Alpine Resort Community Summit Fund, which aims to benefit the local community by providing cash donations to local causes. The Fund’s Mandate is to enhance the community by supporting sustainable local projects that create positive opportunities and outcomes for its citizens, especially youth. The Fund will donate a total of $150,000, with $30,000 allocated to local causes each year for the next five years (2007 through 2011).

All local organizations and charities are eligible for the program. To be eligible, a written application must be presented, outlining the following: the background / history of the beneficiary organization; a description of the Project receiving the grant; and date / timeline of the project in question. The Fernie Alpine Resort Community Summit Fund aims to support a wide variety of causes, benefiting all members of the community, with an emphasis on positive opportunities for youth.

Five outstanding skiers!

The Canadian Ski Museum will honour five outstanding skiers with Induction into the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame, on Thursday evening April 19, 2007, at the Château Carier Resort in Gatineau, QC. Joining the already honoured members in the Hall of Fame will be: Aerialist World Champion Nicolas Fontaine, Alpine Coach of Olympic winners Max Gartner, Cross Country Coach and outstanding International Official Bjorger Pettersen, Alpine Olympic medalist Edi Podivinsky, and Alpine Paralympic medalist Karolina Wisniewska.
